In 2023, The Last Parade, by Stephanie Satie, a realist drama, a history of the Jewish Diaspora in reaction to the present invasion of Ukraine by Russia. It revealed an immigration system in contrast to the modernity of the US, an emotional reaction to the state of being during war times. The multiple emotional affect on history tendencies toward xenophobia, antisemitism and Jewish Pograms in a violent bipartisanship for nationalist political parties.
The Last Yiddish Speaker by Deborah Zoe Laufer
In the 24/25 Season Theater InterAct presented The Last Yiddish Speaker, the ancestral, or inherited spirit of the Jewish diaspora in the resistance to a Far-Right Christian government insurrection in the United States of America. Chava is played by Stephanie Satie, in the spirit of the play she leaves us with uncertainty. Was Chava’s character real or imagined? A figurative symbol to the playwright insinuating the strong faith and resilience, the continual persecution/sacrifice of the scapegoat. These attributes to an unspeakable evil were up against a vital character in the play as Chava’s Jewish traditions. The suggestive faith in a savior like Chava was real or imagined, a traveling refugee. A ghost in exile. Judaic traditions and the Yiddish folklore were intended to carry on for generations.

NOTES: After reading Graham Greene’s THE POWER AND THE GLORY. This ncidental poverty stricken novel, and the incrimination of spiritual beliefs in Mexico in 1930’s connect. In a similar vein, the delayed capture of a wandering priest, and the structured social construction toward the law and rogue priest to draw them closer together in the end the outlaw request for a priest to hear his last confession, and the Mexican army stood by as the priest rose into capture, and his way infront of a firing squad.
