The Beauty of Baudelaire: The Poet as Alternative Lawgiver
Roger Pearson
“Artist and Poet, Etel Adnan, one of the leading intellectual figures of the day.”
In the Light and the Darkness of the Self and of the Other
Where are we? where? There is a where, because we are, stubbornly, and have been, and who are we, if not you and me?
Where are we? Out of History, of his or her story, and back into it, our in space and back to Earth, our of the womb, and then into dust, who are we?
Where is where, where the terror, the love, the pain? Where the hatred? Where your life, and mine?

There, by Adnan is a poem performed by the Hot House artists at Wilma Theater. Actors dress in prismatic colors, the conception of light and shadows form of human emotions, and interactions, even cutting an onion. The poetic forms change with the position of light and color, groups or pairs, still or moving arrangements on stage.

The Wilma stage was in the shape of a half pipe, projections of graffiti colored the vertical wall when we felt a chaos of fleeing prisoners, their mood appeared to be escaping this prison as they slid down from running up the ramp. Audience members sat on either side, facing one another from across scene, the spotlight moved by stagehands for change of scene.
