Travesties (2023)

The comedy of writing, art, and acting in this political satire by Tom Stoppard is about the DADA movement, surrealist artists of the time, and expressionist drama. The writer, Henry Carr in his old age recalls the politics and artists of his time from an arm chair, and in his robe. The program is an encyclopedia from the creators, the dramaturg, Megan Winch, and, the director, Charles McMahon. Meaning for the play, the post-war era, and modernity at its best. Through the lens of Tom Stoppard is a meaningless tale of cultural revolution politically, artistically, and scientifically.

Travesties by Tom Stoppard by The Lantern Theater 2022 Season after four years of drawing from theater and dance from then on, when I refreshed myself with the program after this time there was this complicated narrative. Breaks in the narrative, when gaps in the memory surrounded actual events, retelling Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of being Earnest, references of another perspective made it difficult to follow along. Chronological symbolism in the two Act play on the character’s retelling of historical facts became a sign of infidelity, or adultery in literature.
