AT HOME WITH THE HUMORLESS BASTARD

by Faye Driscoll
The motionless figures move into a great feeling of loss, and a destitute manner takes hold of the slowly rotating stage. NEW from the creator of THANK YOU FOR COMING. The pageantry of myth and hyper real societal construction, interpretation or in the motion of elaborate designs elevate the ordinary.

Looking into the arts & cultural visual reviews from the artists point of view, with sketches by Chuck Schultz in the audience. Designed thoroughly in the line drawings. The art critic sketches scenes of artists on stage; the visual review is a document of the art work. In my articles, THEATER REVIEW: NEW YORK THEATER WORKSHOP, Sanctuary City [2021], and The Half-God of RainFall [2024], are critical and personal essays into imagined worlds, the immigration process, and multiculturalism performed in ceremonial arts. In adaptation studies an artistic visual critique is at play, and appropriated media give way to the illusions of The Art World. A view into the life of theater artists, dancers, musicians, and performers alike. They are visionary interdisciplinary artists in critique of our culture. The Philadelphia Fringe Festival, or Crossing The Line, are festivals to show the innate creative source. The Wilma Theater, My Mamma And The Full-Scale Invasion, Theater InterAct, The Last Parade, and The Last Yiddish Speaker illustrate the dramatic arts in documentary theater.

In 2023, The Last Parade, by Stephanie Satie, a realist drama, a history of the Jewish Diaspora in reaction to the present invasion of Ukraine by Russia. It revealed an immigration system in contrast to the modernity of the US, an emotional reaction to the state of being during war times. The multiple emotional affect on history tendencies toward xenophobia, antisemitism and Jewish Pograms in a violent bipartisanship for nationalist political parties.

The Last Yiddish Speaker by Deborah Zoe Laufer
In the 24/25 Season Theater InterAct presented The Last Yiddish Speaker, the ancestral, or inherited spirit of the Jewish diaspora in the resistance to a Far-Right Christian government insurrection in the United States of America. Chava is played by Stephanie Satie, in the spirit of the play she leaves us with uncertainty. Was Chava’s character real or imagined? A figurative tool by the playwright insinuating the aforementioned opposition, and the continuation of the persecution of a scapegoat. These attributes to an unspeakable evil were up against a vital spiritual character in the play, Chava. The suggestive faith in a savior like Chava was real or imagined to be a traveling refugee in exile. A ghost, whose Judaic traditions and the Yiddish folklore were intentions to carry on for generations.
